2016 in Lolita Fashion and 2017 Predictions.

At the start of this year I made a post trying to predict 2016 Trends in Lolita fashion.

I guessed that "1. OTT will get even more OTT"
Which it didn't, I don't think.
2016 was kind of strange, in that there was no obvious OTT accessory that was most popular. Previously, Madonna crowns were THE big thing, and before that Staffs and Sceptres were everywhere. For a little while I though it might be decorative wings, but that realy didn't take off the same way that other OTT trends did.
Perhaps I just haven't been paying close enough attention.

(Wings from Taobao brand L-Season)

Second, I guessed that "2. Simple OldSchool will also come back."

Which it kind of did? I feel like there has been a lot more oldshcool lolita outfits appearing on Closet of Frills this year than I've seen in the past few years.

Third, I guessed that "3. Mainstream Shoes" would be more popular than Lolita ones.
And I'm honestly not sure if that happened or not.
I don't think it did. Not really.

FOURTH, I predicted that "4. Guro" would become more popular.

It was entirely wishful thinking at the time, but personally, I found this year was great for Guro Lolita.

"Menhera" fashion really took more hold in western communities this year, and a lot of that trickled down into Lolita and have us more interest in Guro than I've ever seen before.

On top of that, lots of brands put out explicitly Guro prints this year. (Especially around Halloween).
Taobao brands in particular released a lot of stuff I liked.

(DrJelly, upcoming guro print)

(FoxFeather's Vampire Ville Print)

The indie brand Violet Fane, who I have postyed about before because I own their "asylum" print,
released the "Posession" print.

(Violet Fane's Posession print)

And the japanese brand Royal Princess Alice gave us Dark Night Hopsital.
I've written about Royal Princess Alice before too, as I own their Ghost Marie print.

(Royal Princess Alice, Dark Knight Hospital)
I really feel like Guro and horror themed fashion is getting more attention than it used to, and I hope this continues!
I had plenty of opportunities to wear GuroLolita outfits of my own too.
After starting 2016 with my Guro Wardrobe Post, I decided to focus on my favourite substyle even more than usual.

I even had the opportunity to do a Photoshoot in a Guro lolita outfit, again wearing the Asylum print.

The fifth thing I predicted was 5. Non-Lolita Brands worn with Lolita outfits.
Which, again, I'm not sure if that happened more than usual or not.
I do feel like non-lolita japanese clothing brands are getting a little more attention than they used to within lolita fashion circles. But not a lot.

In that post at the start of the year, I also made note that in 2014 I thought that Goth would take over Sweet as the big lolita style.
And in 2012 I thought that Dandy and Ouji styles would become more popular.

In hindsight, I feel I was right about Goth gaining popularity from 2014 onwards.
My 2012 predictions on Ouji was pure wishful thinking.

But, I feel like this year I saw a lot more ouji and boystyle outfits than ever before.
It's still not equally as popular as Lolita, but it's definately not the minor sub-style it was in 2012.

Again, it's been mainly Taobao brands that have been making this happen, there have been a LOT of great ouji style pieces released by them.

My predictions for 2017 is that Ouji will become more popular than ever.
At least, I hope it does, since my everyday style is gothic dandy.

and, Ruffs and frilly neck pieces in general will be the OTT accessory of choice.

What do you think will be 2017's Lolita trend?

2017 New Year's Resolutions

Back at the start of this year I made a "2016 New Years Resolutions" video, and thought it'd be interesting to look back over that, and see how well I actually did.
And of course, make some new resolutions for 2017.

I surprised myself by having actually achieved quite a lot of the things I wanted to do!

My 2016 Resolutions were:
1. Make a video every week
2. Learn to draw faces.
3. Clear out my wardrobe.
4. Go out more.

The only one of these I didn't do was "Learn to draw faces".
Because I am faceblind, it's hard to know what makes a face look like a face. But I'll keep trying.

My 2017 Resolutions are going to be:

1. Focus on Quality over Quantity.
Basically, keep making videos and drawing, but do it more slowly and focus on making them better rather than trying to just get them done every week.

2. Study.
Because I'm going to be a student again. I'm gonna need to study!

3. Refine my wardrobe.
I cleared out a lot last year, and there are still plenty of things I want to clear out, but there are also a lot of items I'd rather alter to fit me better so I can wear them more.

That's the plan for 2017!

Do you have any resolutions for next year?
Did you make any last year?
If you did, did you keep them?

3W Clinic Makeup Review

Last week, I reviewed two skincare items from 3W Clinic. This week, I'm following that up with a review of two makeup items!
I bought everything from, who have all of this stuff for 70+% off, so it was a sweet deal. I am not sponsored by roseroseshop or 3w clinic, and all opinions are my own.

First, is the "Collagen BB Shining"
Cushion compact BB cream.

I got this in the lighter shade, "vanilla beige", and it suits me just fine. This probably makes it one of the lighter BB creams out there, sicne they're usually too dark and too warm-toned.

It goes on smoothly and stays on. It's become my go-to base makeup.

The package came with one refil, which is handy because it seems to have vanished from roseroseshop's site. If I can find it again I will re-purchase this once it's gone.

Second, is the "Natural Make Up Powder".

(image is of me trying to read the label.....)

I got the shade "Translucent Pearl".
This stuff is GLITTERY. Really glittery. I didn't notice it so much at first, but after using it a few times it's become obvious. To me, this is a bonus. I like looking like a human disco ball.
But I know that a lot of people don't want that.

The puff that comes in the box is very thick and soft and does it's job well.
Like the BB cream, this powder goes on smothly and stays on.
It's also become my go-to makeup.

These two items have become my everyday base makeup.

What do you think? Have you used this brand before?
Do you like your face glittery, or not?
Leave me a comment, and let me know!

3W Clinic Skincare Review

3W Clinic is a brand I have not heard much about, but good old Roseroseshop has a lot of their products for 70-80% off, so I thought I'd give them a shot.
I bought two skincare products, and two makeup products. The makeup will be reviewed next weekend. Right now, we're focusing on the skincare.

Which might be the most off-putting name of anything I have ever put on my face.

The basic idea behind peeling gel, is that you rub it on your face, and it sticks to all the loose skin cels and dirt, and peels it off.
Here I am, demonstrating how you rub gel on your face:

Just in case you needed that.

I have been using it regularly for roughly a month now, and I have to say, it seems to work!
Whether or not it has long-term skin benefits, I don't know, but the instant results make it worth using imho. As soon as you wash the peeled-up gel off, your skin feels much softer and smoother.

I will keep using it, and I might even re-purchase it once it's gone.

The second skincare item is the "Collagen Whitening Essense"

This stuff promises to condition and soften and generally keep your skin nice.
Most essense type products do. It also claims to 'whiten' your skin, but I will never know if any product can actually do that.

Before this, I used the Etude House Wonder Pore Essense, and honestly this seems to work just as well as that at keeping your skin calm.
It feels nice, doesn't stay gooey on your face or go sticky, and didn't cause any breakouts.

I don't think it's really any better than any other essense I've used, but it certainly didn't cause any problems.

NEXT WEEK I will be reviewing the 3W Clinic Cushion BB creme and Make Up Powder

(I am not affiliated with or sponsored by 3W Clinic or RoseroseShop. I bought these items with my own money and am giving my own opinion on them)

Sugarpill "Pretty Poison" Review

I have been excited about these since they were announced way back when. But then they were released as a limited thing, and only for an event.. so now I'm glad they're finally avaliable for the rest of us!
(I was not sponsored to make this, bought everything with my own money and am giving an honest opinion)

As usual, I bought the true red shade. This one is called "Nurse"

I put it on, and wore it for a day to see how it would go!

Immediately upon trying it on it felt dry. I know they're a matte formula, so that's not too surprising, but the way it dragged on my lips wasn't great.

Still. The colour is amazing, and once on I loved it.

Then I went out for lunch. I like to give new lipsticks the "Burger Test". Basically, I eat a burger and see how well the lisptick lasts.
More often than not, they need re-applied. Which is to be expected. Some superstar lipsticks stay on even after being burger-tested (Illamasqua ones, for example).

This one, not only came off my lips, smeared across my face.
There was a slight red stain left behind, but that stain was on both my lips, and the parts around my mouth where it had smudged. Not good.

Honestly, I'm dissapointed. I'd expect this kind of performance from some of my £1 lipsticks, but this one was $20.
And having said that, not even my £1 MUA red drags or smears as badly as this did.

Overall, not a good first impression of sugarpill. Which is sad, because they get so much hype and everything I've heard about them before has been great.

What do you think? Have you tried this lipstick? Tried other Sugarpill products that you'd reccomend?
Leave me a comment, and elt me know!
